Lean Crew Video Production

Lean crew video production isn’t “winging it.” It’s the opposite: a short checklist that prevents chaos and keeps the footage consistent. Here’s the 15-minute pre-shoot routine I use before a small-crew day.

The 15-minute checklist

1) What is the deliverable?
A homepage hero video, a recruiting piece, a podcast episode, or an ad all need different coverage.

2) What’s the one thing we can’t mess up?
Usually: audio, then lighting, then consistency.

3) What’s the simplest coverage that edits clean?
Fewer setups, better decisions.

4) What’s the constraint?
Time, noise, location rules, talent schedule—pick the constraint and build around it.

5) What does “done” look like?
A clear finish line prevents “one more shot” spirals.

Lean doesn’t mean limited. It means efficient. If you want a premium look without turning the day into a circus, this is the approach.
